  • Bread 4 life

    Bread 4 Life is a Ministry of Transfiguration Baptist Church (TBC) that provides thousands of hot meals each year to residents of the Mantua community of Philadelphia. Mantua is a community that resides between the Philadelphia Zoo, the University of Pennsylvania, and Drexel University.  Yet in 2014, Mantua was designated as a Philadelphia Promise Zone by the Obama administration based on the fact that it is one of the most impoverished sections of Philadelphia.  Because Mantua has also been identified as a food desert, a few churches and local organizations have responded by offering food distribution which usually includes canned and boxed items. Realizing that some of the residents of Mantua did not have the adequate resources to cook daily meals at home, TBC responded by providing hot meals every Tuesday from 5 pm to 6:30 pm.

    When Jesus commissioned his disciples before His ascension, He said, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." At Transfiguration, we take this command of making disciples in all nations very seriously, which leads us to giving up to 50% of your tithe and offerings to work God is doing in Urban Ministry.

WHY GIVE?

We are called to be stewards of God's blessings and a channel for His mercy and grace.  Giving is not just a duty, but a joyful response to the love given to us by God.  We give to make a difference locally, especially in the Mantua section of Philadelphia, which we consider to be our mission field. We give to promote compassion through our support so that others may come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior.  Please join us in this journey, where together, we become an expression of God's love in our community and to the world.
